Overview
- Feature Name: LinkSquares Word Add-In
- Purpose: The LinkSquares Word Add-In brings an AI Legal Assistant directly into Microsoft Word, allowing users to interact with agreements using natural language — without ever leaving their document.

Accessing the Feature
Supported Environments
The LinkSquares Word Add-In is supported in:
- Microsoft Word Desktop (Windows)
- Microsoft Word Desktop (Mac)
- Microsoft Word for Microsoft 365 (Word Online)
The experience functions consistently across all three environments.
Installing the Add-In
There are two ways to install the LinkSquares Word Add-In.
Method 1 — In-App (Recommended)
This is the fastest way to install without leaving your document.
- Open Microsoft Word (Desktop or Web).
- Go to the Home tab on the ribbon.
- Click the Add-ins button (typically on the far right of the ribbon).
Note: In older versions of Word, this option may appear under Insert > Get Add-ins. - Select More Add-ins from the dropdown.
- In the Office Store window that appears, search for LinkSquares.
- Click Add next to the LinkSquares Word Add-In.
- Review the permissions prompt and click Continue.
The add-in will appear as a task pane within Word.
Method 2 — Web Browser via AppSource
If you prefer to browse and install from a web browser:
- Go to the Microsoft AppSource website.
- Search for LinkSquares Word Add-In.
- Click Get it now.
- Sign in with the Microsoft 365 account you use for Word.
- When prompted, click Open in Word.
- Word will launch (or come into focus), and the add-in will be automatically provisioned to your account.
Logging In
Once installed, the add-in will prompt you to log in the first time it opens.
Enter your subdomain — this is the unique identifier for your organization's LinkSquares instance (e.g., yourcompany). Click Continue.
You will be redirected to the LinkSquares Auth0 login page.
Enter your credentials
After successful authentication, the browser window will close and the AI Legal Assistant will appear in the Word task pane.
Required Permissions
- A valid LinkSquares user account with access to the Word Add-In feature
- A Microsoft 365 account with permission to install Word Add-Ins (IT may need to enable this — check with your administrator if the Add-ins button is not visible)
Using the Feature
The AI Legal Assistant accepts natural language prompts entered directly into the chat interface in the task pane. Think of it like texting a legal colleague who has read your entire contract — you just ask what you need, and it responds or acts on the document accordingly.
Primary Capabilities
The capabilities below reflect the full range of actions the AI Legal Assistant supports. Each capability is triggered by typing a prompt into the chat bar and pressing Enter or clicking the Send (→) button.
Summarize an Agreement
- Get a high-level summary of the agreement currently open in Word.
Ask Questions About the Agreement
- Ask specific, plain-language questions about provisions, obligations, or terms in the agreement.
Explain an Agreement in Plain Language
- Have the assistant translate legal language into a plain-English explanation — useful for sharing with non-legal stakeholders.
Identify Missing Information or Placeholders
- Find unfilled placeholders (e.g., [Effective Date], [STATE]) before an agreement is finalized.
Suggest Improvements
- Get AI-generated recommendations for strengthening or completing an agreement.
Note: AI-generated suggestions should always be reviewed by a qualified legal professional before use.
Add a Clause
- Insert a new clause into the agreement directly from the chat interface.
Remove a Clause
- Delete a specific section or clause from the agreement.
Expand a Clause
- Enhance an existing clause with additional legal language or provisions.
Rewrite a Clause (Formal or Plain Language)
- Rewrite a section in either more formal legal language or simplified plain English, while preserving the original meaning.
Draft a New Agreement
- Generate a full agreement from scratch based on a plain-language description.
Troubleshooting
