Covered in this guide:
- Accessing the AI Legal Assistant
- Analyzing agreements in your repository
- Researching legal questions
- Redlining a document against your playbook
- Drafting agreements and amendments
- Setting up playbooks
Getting Started
- Activation: AI Legal Assistant must be turned on for your account by LinkSquares and access granted to specific users by your account Administrator.
If you don't see it in your navigation, check with your Admin.- Admins: Reach out to your CSM to allow other users to access the AI Legal Assistant.
- Where it lives: Open the waffle menu (the grid icon in the top-left of Analyze or Finalize) and select Legal Assistant.
- Prerequisites: To get the most value from redlining and deviation analysis, your team should have a playbook configured first (see Setting Up Playbooks below) — though the Assistant can also generate one for you from an existing template.
Analyzing Agreements in Your Repository
One of the biggest advantages of the Assistant is that you're not limited to reviewing one contract at a time.
- From Analyze, go to your list of agreements.
- Select the checkboxes next to the agreements you want to analyze (up to 5 files at once).
- Click Analyze with Legal Assistant, which appears above the list.
- This opens a natural-language workspace with your selected files attached as context. Ask a question directly. For example: "What's the total contract value across these agreements, and give me a quick summary of each relationship."
- The Assistant returns a written summary of each document plus a value breakdown table, and will suggest next steps, like uploading the analyzed files to your library for future reference.
Drafting Agreements
Generate agreements, amendments, or clauses using natural language. The Assistant pulls from relevant uploaded agreements and fills in the details for you.
- From the home screen describe what you need in plain language, for example, ask for an amendment to a specific agreement and describe the change (updated pricing, extended term, added services, etc.).
- Review the generated draft. It's saved under Recent Drafts on your home screen so you can pick it back up later.
Redlining Against Playbooks
Tell the Assistant what needs to change, in plain language, and it updates your document instantly, from applying edits, enforcing your playbook, and generating suggested language without manual line-by-line review.
- Open the agreement in Finalize. Click Redline with Legal Assistant.
- The in-app editor opens within the AI Legal Assistant. Type a request, for example: "Please run a deviation analysis and suggest redlines based on my playbook."
- The Assistant reads the document and checks it against your playbook rules, then tells you which rule category applies (e.g., "NDA Review Rules").
- It switches the document into Suggesting mode and applies redlines directly in the document as tracked changes, adding comments that explain each deviation and why it's flagged (e.g., a survival period below your standard, or a missing governing law clause).
- Review the suggested changes like any other tracked change: accept or reject them individually, or use Accept All / Reject All at the top of the document.
- Save the agreement back to Finalize by clicking “New Version.” The new version will be reflected as a new version number with the date and time it was saved.
Note:
Every redline is transparent and traceable. The reasoning behind each suggested change is documented in a comment before you accept it.
Conducting Research
Ask the AI Legal Assistant any legal question and get a clear, citation-backed answer pulled from public and government sources, without leaving your workflow.
- Ask your question in plain language while reviewing a document or start from scratch within the in-app chat. Example: "What regulations should I be considering and what clauses should I include to address those regulations?"
- The Assistant researches over 100 sources, cites where each answer was derived from, and returns a comprehensive explanation.
Setting Up Playbooks
Custom rules, prompts, and clauses ensure your agreements align with company policies every time you redline or draft, helping you stay compliant at scale.
- If you already have drafting rules or guidelines, import them and the Assistant will turn them into rules and clauses you can use, along with repeatable prompts.
- If you don't have documented rules yet, upload your standard templates and the Assistant will generate playbook rules for you automatically.
Beyond Contracts
The Assistant isn't limited to agreements. You can also use it for broader legal and business tasks, like:
- Summarizing board notes
- Reviewing bills or policies
- Drafting internal documents
- Pulling insights from long RFPs
Click the waffle icon on the top left of the screen and select “Legal Assistant.” This will take you directly to the AI Legal Assistant, where you can ask questions and upload documents.
